Why Do Acne Scars Form?

Acne scars are the permanent structural modifications that occur due to deep-seated inflammation inside sebum glands. When an acne cyst or pustule ruptures under the skin, it destroys the surrounding healthy dermal tissue.

As the skin tries to heal itself, it produces thick, disorganized collagen fibers. These vertical fiber bands anchor the top layer of skin down to the deeper subcutaneous tissue, creating shallow valleys, deep rolling hills, or sharp boxcar scars on the surface.

Only specialized clinical actions that release these tethered anchor bands (Subcision) and promote healthy vertical collagen rebuilding (MNRF) can permanently smooth out the surface.

Major Acne Scar Profiles

  • 1

    Rolling Scars

Shallow depressions with sloping edges that create a wavy appearance. Highly responsive to subcision + MNRF.

  • 2

    Boxcar Scars

Broad depressions with sharp, defined vertical edges. Treated with fractional resurfacing lasers and chemical peels.

  • 3

    Icepick Scars

Deep, very narrow pits that look like small holes poked into the skin. Addressed with TCA CROSS therapy.

Advanced Protocol

Clinical Acne & Scar Procedures

Medical Subcision

A surgical needle is swept beneath the scar tissue to permanently sever the fibrous tether bands pulling the skin down, instantly lifting the depressed scars.

MNRF (Microneedling RF)

Insulated microneedles deliver fractional radiofrequency energy deep into the dermis, heating the tissue to stimulate intense production of new skin collagen.

Resurfacing Peels

Salicylic, Glycolic, or TCA chemical peels are applied to exfoliate damaged outer layers, clear hyperpigmentation, and sterilize active acne bacteria.

FDA Laser Resurfacing

Fractional laser columns generate micro-thermal zones, causing the outer skin layers to slough off and rebuild smooth, even-textured surface.

Acne Scar Treatment FAQs

How many sessions of MNRF will I need?

Usually, 3 to 5 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart are required to see optimal skin remodeling. Since collagen maturation takes time, the improvements continue for up to 3 months after your last session.

Is there any downtime after subcision & MNRF?

Yes, a mild downtime is expected. You will experience redness and tiny sand-like micro-scabs for 3 to 5 days after MNRF. Subcision may cause temporary swelling and bruising under the skin for 4 to 7 days, which heals naturally.

Are chemical peels useful for active acne?

Yes, salivary-based chemical peels are the gold standard for active acne. They clear out accumulated oil blocks inside the glands, dry up pustules, and lower local acne bacterial concentrations within 48 hours of application.
